On Thursday May 22nd, at the Scotiabank Theatre, the festival brought together 350 guests, 11 selected film directors, cast and crew for a very exciting evening.
Guests were greeted by a red carpet, where they had the chance to strike poses and participate in the 2014 TSFF Best Photogenic Contest.
The film presentation opened with a performance by The M.A.D. poet followed greetings and remarks by Executive Director Mingu Kim, Mr. Reg Christian, President of Rhythm Travel and Tours, and the Hon. David Zimmer, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs.
This year’s film presentation was comprised of 14 films that include 11 Toronto-based submissions and 3 international submissions. The film jurors were: Min Sook Lee, award winning filmmaker; Gloria Kim, director/producer/writer; and Aram Collier, film programmer/filmmaker.
The film presentation was followed by an award ceremony, and 6 films were presented with awards and prizes.
The first place TSFF Award was presented to the film Lovely by director Justin Santiago, the second place Rhythm Award was presented to Daydreamer directed by Jennifer Martin, and the third place KTO Award was presented to Nelly Makes a Picnic Lunch by director Nelly Kim.
The festival also included an international award category this year, called the Arirang Korea Award, which was presented to Dir. Dimitar Dimitrov’s film, The Day of The Bleeding Gums.
The Raindance Award for the best entry level filmmaker was given to Director Mariana Urrutia for her film Carpe Diem, and Director Ken Song received the Audience Choice award for his film Like Coffee.
The event was covered by various media outlets and personalities, ending with an exciting after party with food and music by world travelling DJ, Gerald Belanger.
