자폐아동 후원단체 AIM(Autism In Mind) 주최 기금 모금 갈라가 지난 11월 8일 오후 6시 마캄에 위치한 Le Park Banquet Hall에서 열렸다. 가면 무도회를 주제로 한 이번 행사는 자폐증에 대한 대중들의 인식을 높이고 자폐 어린이들의 치료에 필요한 기금을 마련하기 위해 개최되었다.
단체 설립자인 최숙희씨는 2011년 자폐 형제를 3명이나 둔 한 가족을 위해 시작한 모금행사가 단체설립을 결성하는 계기가 되었다고 전했다. 자폐아동을 가지고 있는 가정은 해마다 약 6만 달러 이상이 치료비로 소요되며 자폐치료는 온주건강보험(OHIP)에 해당되지 않는다.
AIM was established by Suki Choi and other individuals wanting to make a difference in the lives of children with autism. The Saturday Social Skills and Intensive Behaviour Intervention Therapy programs are the cornerstone of AIM’s work. These programs focus on improving communication and social skills and help children with autism integrate into their communities and communicate without barriers. The programs are funded by generous individual supporters like you, corporate grants, and from various fundraising events held throughout the year.
