지난 11월 26일 갤러리아 수퍼마켓에서 11월 26일 장애인, 노인, 싱글맘 등 소외된 이웃을 위한 사랑의 김장 품앗이 행사가 열렸습니다.
이 날 행사에서는 추운 날씨에도 불구하고 따뜻한 나눔을 실천하고자 60여명의 한인과 비한인 자원 봉사자들이 참여하였습니다. 이들은 유안농장에서 기부한 배추 1000포기를 2시간 동안 정성껏 만들어 5kg짜리 205상자의 김치를 생산했으면 작년 보다 50상자가 더 만들어져 더 많은 양의 김치가 수혜단체에게 돌아가게 되었습니다.
아울러 이날 행사에서 마이클 코토(Michael Coteau, MPP, Don valley East, Minister of Tourism Culture & Sport) 연방의원 측은 갤러리아수퍼마켓과 자원 봉사자들이 지역사회를 위해 봉사하는 것을 격려하고 행사를 축하하는 의미의 감사패를 전달하였습니다.
갤러리아 수퍼마켓 민병훈 사장은 이날 행사에서 “벌써 7번째 행사를 맞이한 김장품앗이 행사에 자원봉사자들과 더불어 나눔을 실천하게 되어 매우 기쁘다고 말했습니다. 내년에는 좀더 많은 이웃들에게 사랑의 김치가 전해질 수 있도록 노력하겠다고 말하며 참여한 모든 자원봉사자들에게 감사함의 뜻을 전했습니다.
이날 담은 김장김치는 다가올 겨울나기에 조금이나마 도움이 될 수 있도록 무궁화 양로원, 한인사회 봉사회, 토론토 한국노인회, 자유북한인협회, 한인회, 조이모자선교회, 한가족 노인주택 양로원, 은혜양로원, 한인유학생의 모임, 미시사가 독거노인 후원회, 작은빛자선회, 성인장애인 공동체 등 총 12개 단체에 205박스의 사랑의 김장김치가 전달되었습니다.
The "I Love You, Kimchi Donation Event" was held by Galleria Supermarket on November 26th. The event was held to support those living on the margins of society - including single mothers, seniors and disabled members of our community.
Despite the cold weather, about 60 Korean and non-Korean volunteers came out to share the warmth of their love and support. 1000 cabbages were donated by Yuan Farms, and the volunteers were able to produce 205 boxes of Kimchi, weighing 5kg each. This year, 50 more boxes of Kimchi were produced compared to last year, allowing much more Kimchi to be given out to many more people.
On this day, Michael Coteau, Minister of Tourism Culture and Sports, gave a speech thanking the volunteers and Galleria Supermarket for their community service.
With the hope of making even a small difference in the lives of many people in need this winter, the 205 boxes of Kimchi were distributed to 12 different organizations including the Rose of Sharon Long Term Care, Korean Community Volunteer Association, Toronto Korean Senior Citizens Society of Toronto, North Koreans in Canada, Korean Canadian Cultural Association, Joy Women & Children's Mission Society of Canada, One Family Senior Citizens Home, Pleasant Valley Rest Home, Korean Students Abroad Association, Mississauga Single Senior Citizens Support Association, Small Light Charity, 성인장애인 공동체, and etc.
