자유영화제의 공동 주최자와 영화 일정이 결정되면서, 자유영화제의 입장권이 토론토 국제영화제의 벨 라이트박스에서 판매되고 있다.
영화제가 채 2주도 남지 않은 현재, 관객들은 자유 영화제의 웹사이트를 통해 영화 스케줄을 확인할 수 있다.
자유영화제의 디렉터인 길라드 코헨은, “영화일정이 모두 결정되어 상당히 기쁘다.”고 말했다. 그는, “토론토 다른 영화제들과의 협력은 북한인들의 이야기를 전하는데 도움이 될 것이다.”라며 소감을 전했다. 7개국 9개의 영화로 자유영화제는 스카보로 영화제, 핫 닥스, 릴 아시안, 토론토 한국 영화제, 휴먼 라이츠 워치 등의 영화제들과 한보이스, 성공적인 통일을 만들어가는 사람들 등의 기관들과 함께 영화제를 공동 개최한다.
자유영화제에서는 롭 몽츠의 ‘주체 스트롱’, 양영희의 ‘가족의 나라’를 포함한 캐나다 첫 상영작 등을 선보일 예정이다.
영화 티켓은 온라인으로 구매할 수 있고, 자유 영화제의 개막 캠페인에 기부하는 구매자들은 입장권을 할인된 가격에 구매할 수 있다.

Jayu’s co-presenters and schedule are finalized as tickets for all of the Human Rights Film Festival programming are now on sale at the TIFF Bell Lightbox
TORONTO – With the schedule and co-presenters finalized, tickets for Jayu’s Human Rights Film Festival are now available at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, 350 King Street West via walk in or online and by telephone. With the film festival less than two weeks away, Torontonians can log onto Jayu’s website to get the full scoop on what films are schedule to be shown from October 25th-October 27th, 2013 at the TIFF Bell Lightbox.
“It’s very exciting to have the schedule firmed up” says Gilad Cohen, Executive Director for Jayu. “The collaborations with other great festivals and organizations in this city will surely help us share the stories of the North Korean people.” With nine films from seven different countries Jayu is pleased to co-present these films with other festivals like the Scarborough Film Festival, Hot Docs, Reel Asian, Toronto Korean Film Festival, Human Rights Watch as well as organizations such as HanVoice and PSCORE (People for Successful Corean Reunification).
Jayu will be showcasing some Canadian premiers during the festival including Rob Montz’s Juche Strong, Yang Yong-hi’s Our Homeland and the free screening of Matt Dworzanczyk’s DPRK: The Land of Whispers, which will be screened on Friday, October 25th at noon. Special guests are scheduled after each film screening to engage the audience into a deeper discussion about and the lives and human rights abuses of everyday North Korean people. This will be a rare chance for Torontonians to connect with North Korean defectors on a public stage and ask questions about life in North Korea.
Although tickets are available online for single screenings, supporters of Jayu can donate to the Kickstarter campaign and receive weekend and Festival passes for discounted rates. Having just officially launched in Canada and already backing over 300 projects, Kickstarter was a great choice for Jayu who launched their campaign to raise $3,200 for the organization’s operating costs including venue and film costs.

Jayu was born when a need to raise awareness of the human struggle in North Korea was identified. In 2012, a three day event launched, the North Korean Human Rights Film Festival, with hopes of using a variety of film and guests to educate the community about human rights abuses. Since then, Jayu has grown exponentially. In just a little more than one short year, Jayu has come together with North Koreans, artists and activists to share the North Korean story with high schools, colleges and universities while forming chapters in cities across Ontario.
