북한주민의 탈북 이야기를 다룬 영화 탈북자가 무료상영회와 동시에 토론회를 함께 갖는다. Ann Shin 감독의 작품인 이번 영화는 촬영팀과 직접 중국을 찾아가 자유를 향한 5000km의 행보를 그들과 함께하며 생생한 여정을 카메라에 담았다.

Hot Docs 국제영화제, 그리고 알자지라 다큐멘터리 영화제에서도 상영되어 언론의 관심을 끌었다.
상영회와 토론회는 캐나다 다큐멘터리 영화단체인 DOC의 주최로 열리며,
경품 추첨과 다과도 제공될 예정이다.

‘The Defector’ is directed by 2nd generation Korean Canadian
filmmaker, Ann Shin. It has screened at twenty one international film festivals
thus far, including International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, Hot Docs
Canadian International Film Festival, and Al Jazeera Documentary Film Festival.
TVO broadcasted the film for Canadian audiences this past June. It also
received high reviews from Toronto Stars, National Post, and made the front
page headline in New York Times. Film synopsis: As the leadership in North Korea changes and Kim Jong-un
takes the helm, Dragon is busy smuggling North Korean defectors across borders.
His latest undercover trip with Sook-Ja and Yong-hee takes an unexpected turn
when they are left stranded in China. This is only the beginning of an
extraordinary 5,000 km journey. Their story reflects the reality of tens of
thousands of North Koreans currently in hiding in China. Filmed undercover by a
Korean-Canadian filmmaker, Ann Shin gets intimate access with these 3
individuals in this dramatic POV film. Beautifully shot, with a compelling
high-stakes story, ‘The Defector’ poses broad questions around human smuggling
and the pursuit of freedom. Documentary Organization of Canada and Toronto Korean Film
Festival, together prepared this event in the response to the high interest
from the Korean community in the topic of human rights for the defectors from
North Korea. The film will be screened with Korean subtitle, and the panel
discussion will also be in both, Korean and English languages. We've prepared a very dynamic and interactive program to
create a flow of questions and answers between the audience members and the
panel speakers as well as fun door prizes, and free refreshment for the
